For as long as stories have been told, farmers have supplied fresh and delicious pork to serve as ordinary meals and for special celebrations.

But one day, everything changed…

As the world population grew, so did the demand for pork.

Pork consumption increased, as did consumers’ demand for animal welfare and food safety.

To assist the pork supply chain in meeting the growing demand for food safety, South African Pork Producers developed a farm assurance system to address best practices throughout the pork value chain, from the farm to the consumer.

SAPPO’s Farm Assured accreditation is a commitment to the consumer that South African farmers, processors and retailers, all adopt best practices and processes that comply with global standards to ensure safe, fresh and affordable pork.

Participating members of this accreditation scheme are audited annually by independent auditors to ensure that prescribed standards are adhered to.

The production standards address, among others, the following:

  • Food Safety
  • Traceability
  • Animal Welfare
  • Biosecurity
  • Environmental Stewardship

The programme ensures that the consumer will have enough healthy and tasty pork to fill their plates for many meals to come. Through Pork 360, everyone in the value chain is assured of safe, fresh and affordable South African pork.
